What is more precious to you than your health and safety?

Whether you are at your workplace or at home, your personal health and safety are most critical to your well-being and your future. You can hire people to do everything for you, but ONLY YOU can take responsibility.

In the hierarchy of human needs, psychologists have theorized that a person must have attained a sense of security for their personal health and safety before they can advance to higher levels of achievement, such as productivity and self-actualization. Consider how employees reacted to September 11; when they lost their sense of safety, they were not productive. They were highly distracted and concerned for their own wellbeing, as well as that of their family and friends.

Health and safety is no longer only a workplace consideration. Employees, who practice good habits at home and in their community, are found to have fewer accidents in the workplace. Likewise, companies that enforce measures at the workplace build these values into their employees, who carry them home to their family members. Thus, they have fewer accidents after they leave their place of employment.

Health and safety are 24/7 issues that should be adopted by all members of the family. Whether a person is playing sports or doing yard work, good health and safety practices are a foundation for a healthy and long future. Plus, they set an example for children and other members of the community. So, be a role model and demonstrate good health and safety habits at work, at home and in the community.


Do you know where you are going and where you have been? To help identify unsafe conditions or practices and take action to prevent additional incidents, a review of workplace injuries, illnesses and accident investigations is necessary. Identifying how? How often and what instrument will be used? Who is responsible to ensure the review will occur? What records will be included? How will corrective actions be documented and tracked?
